Listen To The Animals is played. Immediately after, one of Mel's drums accidentally falls off Mel's drum set, flipping at the ceiling, and landing on Mel's head. Mel drops the drum on the floor, and Jack asks if Mel is O.K. Mel replies by meowing, which concerns Jack and Mary. Mel continues meowing to more questions. He then hops off of his drum set and starts playing his marvelous music machine. Mister is played. Back at the clubhouse, Jack and Mary are still worried about Mel. Jack asks Mary what could have caused Mel to meow. Mary thinks that it is the drum landing on Mel's head, and she is right. The drum gave Mel amnesia, and he has forgotten how to bark. Jack doesn't believe Mary at first, but then Mel cuddles on Jack, purring like a cat. This makes Jack immediately believe Mary, and Mary suggests teaching Mel how to bark. Jack likes the idea, and goes to Mel, who is licking his paw near his drums. Jack tells Mel that he needs to be taught how to bark. Mel agrees. Jack tells Mel to repeat after him, and Jack breaks down the word "ruff". Mel says the sounds that make the word "ruff", but he fails at actually saying "ruff". He meows again, which makes Jack mad, yelling at him, which makes Mel run from Jack. Mary rushes over, and Jack says that they may have a problem. Then, the Schwartzman Quartet enter. Unfortunately, they sing "Mel The Meowing Dog", which makes Mel join along and continue to meow. Once the quartet leaves, Mary asks Jack what he thought of the song. Jack is too sad to answer, barely agreeing. Mary asks Jack if he is O.K., but Jack says that he misses his Mel. Mel turns on the music machine behind them, playing "I Like It That Way". Back at the clubhouse, Mel is licking his paw on the piano. Jack and Mary show Mel his favorite bone, Mr. Chewy, and his favorite ball, Uncle Bouncy, hoping they'll jog his memory, but none of these work. Jack shows Mel his dog food named Doggy Yum-Yums, and after Mel declines the dog food, Jack attempts to show Mel how delicious the food is by eating it. Mel still thinks he is a cat. Jack is frustrated, and Mary tells Jack not to panic. However, Mel plays with a ball of yarn, which makes Jack panic with Mary's permission. Jack repeatedly yells about Mel being a cat. Then, Cathy Richardson enters in order to save the day. Jack and Mary tell Cathy what has been going on in the clubhouse today, and Cathy sings "Every Animal Has Its Groove". In the song, many different animal sounds are made, and finally, they make dog sounds, which makes Mel remember how to bark. He spins over to Jack, Mary, and Cathy. They are all happy Mel is back. Cathy leaves, and Jack, Mary, and Mel sing "Listen To The Animals (Reprise)". After the song, Jack tells Mel that it is good to have him back. Mel makes a sheep sound, which makes Jack and Mary worried again. However, Mel barks, which leave Jack and Mary in relief, laughing. They then sing the goodbye song.
