Plot[]

Mel is filthy and needs to take a bath, but he's too scared to. Will Jack and Mary convince him that taking a bath is fun?

Summary[]

Jack and Mary look out the window as Mel digs up some trombones he buried in the backyard. Once Mel finds the trombones, Jack, Mary, and Mel will be able to do their "Trombone-A-Thon". Mel enters the clubhouse with the trombones, but he is dirty. Jack and Mary tell Mel he needs a bath before the "Trombone-A-Thon", but Mel doesn't want a bath. Jack and Mary sing "You Must Take a Bath" while Mel plays the drums while being filthy. After the song is over, Mel then runs away and turns on the music machine, and the Laurie Berkner Band's "I'm A Mess" music video is played. Back at the clubhouse, Mary and Jack try to find Mel. They find footprints from Mel's dirty feet on the floor and follow them to Mel, who is at his music trunk. Jack explains to Mel that once he takes a bath, the trio will have a "Trombone-A-Thon." Mel still disagrees. Sudsy Bubblestein enters because her dirty dog detector has detected a dirty dog. Jack and Mary explain that Mel is hiding in his music trunk. Sudsy then sets up, and most of the clubhouse is now decorated for Mel to take a bath. Mel still doesn't want to take a bath. The Schwartzman Quartet arrive to sing. Sudsy then turns on the bath, while and she and the Schwartzman Quartet sing "Super Sudsy Bubblestein Bubbles". Once the quartet leaves, Mel climbs out of the trunk to see the bubbles. Once he realizes he still needs to take a bath, he runs away again and turns on the music machine. "I Hope My Momma Says Yes" is played. Back at the clubhouse, Mel hides behind a double bass. Sudsy finds him and tells him how taking a bath is fun. Mel finally agrees to take a bath. He gets used to it first by putting his hands in the tub, then his paws, and finally, his whole body. Mel loves taking baths now. Jack and Mary, excited, sing "A Bath Is All Right" to Mel with Sudsy singing backup. Once Mel is all clean, Sudsy asks to join the "Trombone-A-Thon." She has a trombone in the tub to play. Jack, Mary, Mel, and Sudsy all play trombones together in a variant of the closing theme.

Trivia[]

  • Jack does not say "See you next time!" in this episode.
  • This is the last aired originally-produced season two episode for a few things:
  • The last aired originally-produced season two episode to take place entirely in the clubhouse.
  • This is the last aired originally-produced season two episode of Jack's Big Music Show with the usual formula. The one after this was the final episode, where the format was slightly changed.
  • This is the last aired originally-produced season two episode to feature Mel's marvelous music machine. He'd use a portable one in the next and final aired episode produced in the season.
  • This is one of few episodes where the ending theme is slightly different.
  • Another puppet was used for dirty Mel. They used a fluffier, different-looking replica puppet, and sewed in off-color pieces and dirt.
  • During the part where Sudsy takes out the items from her bag, a mirror was used.

Goofs[]

  • It was not explained why Mel was afraid to take a bath.
  • The bath that Mel got cleaned in was brought in by Sudsy, so if she didn't arrive to the clubhouse, it's unknown where Mel would have bathed instead, since the clubhouse doesn't seem to have a bathtub or any source of water.
